"...rejoicing in hope. patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer."

 - Romans 12.12


Patient in tribulation. Why is it patience that is needed in tribulation? Why not perseverance?


Here's how I understand it. We have hope in God's reign and kingdom, a kingdom which cannot be shaken (Hebrews 12.28), we know ultimately that our future is in that kingdom. So when when we face tribulation, we know that it is lasting only for a moment. Eternity is forever, this life isn't.


So if you're going through a hard time at the moment, realise that it isn't the end. It isn't going to be like this forever. You will pass through this into something much much better; an eternity with Jesus.
